Crowds of youths run through the seafront gardens at Skegness. Many are dressed according to “skinhead” fashion; button-down shirts, jeans and braces; close-shaven hair and sideburns. Police attempt to control the crowds and people are pushed and pulled about roughly. Onlookers get caught up in the action. A young man is apprehended and escorted to the rear of a police van. These scenes are then contrasted with more peaceful seaside images; holidaymakers ride the Ferris Wheel or enjoy a paddle in the sea. At the Clock Tower, a journalist, Ken Hayes, reveals the public’s attitude to youth subcultures; reports on the recent behaviour and arrests of the “skinheads” and the possible effects on tourism.
