News Newsletters

Our autumn 2024 newsletter is out now.

Read the newsletter to discover more about our current projects and an exciting opportunity for young filmmakers!

In this edition, we look ahead to the MashUp Filmmaking Competition, which invites young people across the East of England region to make their own film using archive footage. The competition opens in November, so it’s time to get on your marks!

This year our technical team have created a new 4K scan of Cat. 117 “Norwich Scenes, 1938-1950”, and we’re delighted that it is on display at the Jarrolds stationery store in Norwich alongside archive filmmaking equipment. The display will be shown until Tuesday 22nd October, so we do hope you’ll be able to visit and enjoy it before then.

At the end of September, we celebrated 60 years of the BBC’s flagship news and magazine programme for the East of England, Look East. We look back on the early years of regional television and share an exclusive documentary, “A Day in the Life of Look East”.

In the summer we were joined by Roseena Hussain, UEA graduate intern, who undertook a project to digitise video tapes from our collections, looking ahead to our 50th anniversary in 2026. Roseena shares a beautiful reflection on the fleeting and familiar scenes that can be revealed through the digitisation process.

And last but not least, we celebrate the season by sharing Edible East Anglia, our curated selection of films celebrating the food cultures of our region. Bon appetit!
