Anglia Television programme profiling Nurse Edith Cavell.

Bob Wellings presents an 'About Anglia' profile of nurse Edith Cavell, charged with aiding the escape of allied soldiers during World War I and executed by firing squad in German-occupied Belgium in 1915. Archival photographs, newspaper clippings and interviews illustrate her life, which began in the Norfolk village of Swardeston, where her father was the local vicar. Schooled in Peterborough, she spent time as a governess in Brussels and decided, aged 31, to become a nurse, later opening her own nursing school. Family friends and other residents of Swardeston share their memories of Cavell and her family, and speak of the impact of her death, a heroic act of selfless sacrifice which will long be remembered.
