Tarbuck is surrounded by members of the public at the funfair. How difficult is it for a stand up comic to find new material? Tarbuck says he has three writers on his staff and people also send him jokes. Are the jokes people send any good? Tarbuck quips that not all jokes can be used and most are very naughty. Wellings remarks that Tarbuck’s career has had highs and lows. Why did the critics turn against him? Tarbuck says that the critics are right to criticise. He doesn’t mind it. Does he think the Palladium success had come too early in his career? No! What would be like to do now? Tarbuck says he is very happy. It is his second season in Yarmouth. Last time he was third down the bill, now he is top of the bill. Tarbuck says he turned down a free ride on the Big Dipper, and makes a joke. How tough is it being a funny man? Very hard. Wellings asks Tarbuck to make them laugh. Tarbuck says, “well I’ll put that suit on and we’ll all roar!”

Background Information

The Regal was built as a large cinema with stage facilities on the site of the former Theatre Royal, in Great Yarmouth. Building began in 1929 and the venue opened on January 1st 1934. The Regal was taken over by Union Cinemas in 1936 and then in 1937 was operated by Associated British Cinemas (ABC) and renamed ABC in 1961. By the late 1980s the venue was operated by Cannon Cinemas but then closed in late May 1988. The theatre was demolished in 1989 and shops - the Market Gates Shopping Precinct, were built on the site. James "Jimmy" Tarbuck, is an English comedian. Anita Harris is an English actress, singer and entertainer. Kenneth McKellar is a Scottish tenor. The Rockin' Berries are a Beat group from Birmingham, England.
