Anglia TV reporter Jane Probyn interviews comedian and TV personality Ronnie Corbett. Both are sitting on the steps at the entrance to the Britannia Theatre at Great Yarmouth. They muse on the dull weather. Although born in Edinburgh, what does Corbett think of Norfolk? It is now Corbett’s fourth season in Yarmouth and he was also stationed in the Air Force at RAF Bircham Newton, so he knows Norfolk and likes it. Does Corbett find TV more restricting than live theatre? Corbett enjoys returning to the theatre as a change from TV. Probyn remarks that Corbett is referred to as “the wee little man with the dapper appearance” and asks if he was teased at school because he is little. Corbett claims not to have suffered seriously but did “have his leg pulled”. What did he want to be when he was a little boy? He thought about being a clergyman briefly, perhaps enjoying the performance aspect, but then knew that he enjoyed theatre. He is interested in clothes, often described as “dapper”. He likes nice, colourful clothes. He can’t buy trousers and jackets off the peg. If he could choose to be anyone then who would it be? A difficult question he says. He would love to play golf like Gary Player, but on the whole is happy being himself.
