The interviewer comments that at a time where jobs are so scarce, surely disabled people don’t stand a chance of finding one. Douglas Bader replies that they should have an equal chance as they can do the job as well as other people. He says that it is important to remember that disabled people are determined to show that they can do as well as anyone else can. He states that as a result they can probably do the job better. Background Information

Sir Douglas Bader, himself an amputee, served as an RAF pilot during the Second World War. He was appointed Knight Bachelor in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 1976 for his campaigning for the rights of disabled people.
