Cat no. 205998
Anglia Television programme looking at life in the Bedfordshire towns of Leighton Buzzard and Linslade.
On the western edge of central Bedfordshire, Anglia correspondent Michael Partington reports from the towns of Leighton Buzzard and Linslade, highlighting their rural past, the growth of industry and their future prospects. Whilst Leighton Buzzard remains an important hub for the local rural community, housing livestock auctions and a centuries-old market in the centre of the town, its proximity to London and recent expansion of industry means the area is facing rapid change. With the town now officially joined with nearby Linslade, residents are interviewed about what the town means to them, iwhat it offers and what it requires for the future. Also highlighted are the recent expansion of sand quarries and the subsequent production of bricks and tiles, plans for the improvement and pedestrianisation of the town centre, and the burgeoning pleasure cruising industry on the nearby Grand Union Canal, and finishes with a look at what lies ahead for Leighton Buzzard and Linslade, including new amenities and increased populations.
