Anglia Television documentary on the effects of London's overspill plan for Haverhill in Suffolk.

Documentary examining the effects of the people who have relocated to the small town of Haverhill as part of London County Council's overspill plan. Architectural journalist, Kenneth Robinson, sets out the principles of local expansion and the necessity to ease the housing problem in London. It is the new townspeople themselves, however, who speak to the camera and interview their friends and colleagues: a group of mothers gathered round a baby's pram; the boss of an architectural metalwork business in the workshop. Robinson points out the 'no-choice' situation some of the less enthusiastic Londoners find themselves in, “staying behind in a rather dismal slum in a city they like, or going to bright new housing in a town they don't want to go to at all”. The Clerk of Haverhill Council observes that by “solving the problems of London Housing...a dying town has turned into a flourishing and growing community.”
