1963 , Scolt Head (Norfolk)

Bob Wellings reports from Scolt Head Island, a Norfolk wildlife reserve operated by the Nature Conservancy.

Television programme highlighting the work taking place on the Scolt Head Island nature reserve. Presenter Bob Wellings introduces the 1800 acre island, a large breeding ground for Terns who migrate every summer from North Africa, and an important resource for Dr Joycie from the Zoology department at Cambridge University, who leads an annual party of students to study the island's aquatic wildlife. The Nature Conservancy, who maintain the island under lease from the National Trust, are represented by Dr Pullman, who discusses its history and responsibilities, and the importance of research work amongst the rich habitats of East Anglia. Island warden Bob Chestney, who took over the role from his father in 1950, describes his role - looking after the birds in summer and general management in winter - and he and Wellings discuss the 'ternery' breeding ground and the process of tagging birds to track their movements across continents, before Wellings addresses a recent hatchling and signs off.
