John McGregor questions whether it's worth all the hassle going to the seaside for August Bank Holiday, and explores the new opportunity of travelling from Clacton to Calais with or without your passport, on boat or by plane. John McGregor asks Mr Holden about the logistics or travelling without passports, the costs and ease of transporting cars to either Calais, Ostend or Rotterdam. On arrival in Calais, McGregor explores the town and its market. Fresh vegetables, meat and fish are in bountiful supply. The port bustles with cargo and passengers alike, all looking for either French bargains to be bought, or English favourites to consume like a cup of tea, beer or chicken. The Deputy Mayor of Calais hopes that more British will come to Calais, and for longer periods of time. With John McGregor, they discuss Britain's entry into the European Common Market and the proposed tunnel between Britain and France. McGregor explores the effect day-trippers have on Calais' s economy, and chats with British tourists about their day abroad.
