Anglia Television report featuring the amalgamation ceremony of the 1st East Anglian Regiment.

With commentary throughout, the official ceremony, whereby the Royal Norfolk Regiment and Suffolk Regiment amalgamate to form the 1st East Anglia Regiment, takes place at the Royal Norfolk’s barracks, at Iserlohn in Germany. Looking back at the day the Suffolk Regiment boarded the ship at Harwich to join the Royal Norfolk Regiment, already stationed in barracks at Iserlohn. Colonel Malcolm Dewar, Commanding Officer, is present to bid his regiment farewell, and the soldiers are serenaded by a military brass band as they board the ship carrying their luggage. The officers pose for the camera, as Peter Kennerley chats to Corporal John Whiffin. Returning to footage of the amalgamation ceremony in Germany, the two regiments march in unison, parade their colours and are inspected by their own Colonels, before coming together to form one unit, the 1st East Anglian Regiment, and salute the new Commanding Officer Brigadier Maxwell. Brigadier Maxwell addresses the newly formed regiment, followed by the Reverend Kendre. Peter Kennerley interviews Ralph Gray, Eastern Daily Press war correspondent with the Royal Norfolk Regiment, and Marie Sheringham is seen interviewing Corporal Clarke. At The Corporals’ Club, Club President Corporal Whiffen speaks with Peter Kennerley about the amalgamation. Closing footage shows the German town of Iserlohn.
