1960 , Melton Constable (Norfolk)

An Anglia Television report on railway closures in Norfolk.

The busy streets of Norwich are clogged with traffic and lined with signs prohibiting parking, whilst in rural Norfolk; a car passes beneath an old railway bridge that has recently had its tracks removed. This Anglia Television report on the closure of railways in Norfolk canvasses the views of local residents and investigates the effect on towns such as Melton Constable, once a through point for a number of lines and home to a busy railway works which now lies in ruin. Mr Lambert, an elderly resident and former engine cleaner at the Melton Constable works talks about the history of the town and his later roles as fireman and engine driver. Meanwhile, in rural Norfolk, railway tracks are being removed as some of the workers involved discuss their work on the railways and the future prospects for railwaymen.
