Anglia TV news item; interview with former Labour Party member Shirley Williams in Cambridge about the newly formed Social Democratic Party.
Anglia TV reporter Tony Adams interviews former Labour Party member Shirley Williams in Cambridge about the first East of England rally for the newly formed Social Democratic Party. Williams argues that support comes from across the three major parties - 40% of support comes from Labour, 30% from Conservatives, and the remainder from Liberals or from people not before politically active including younger people. Tony Adams asks Williams if she is offering herself as a candidate for Cambridge. Williams says that similar to the case for Roy Jenkins, she has to be available to fight by-elections so would not be able to stand for Cambridge, or indeed any town or city. The seat she would most like to fight for, however, would be for her old seat in Stevenage.
