Anglia TV news item; vox pops on the streets of Norwich asking women about the International Women's Rights Year in 1975.

Opens with a shot of women walking down the street. Interviewer Geoff Druett asks various women on the street if they know that in the following year 1975 it is International Women’s Rights Year. One woman says she didn’t know that it is and she likes the old fashioned way of women being women and men being men. Another woman says that you can get anything you want as a woman if you play your cards right but she doesn’t think there is equality between men and women. Another woman says that she is not a great supporter of women’s lib but she wants there to be equal pay between men and women. Another woman says that she wants women to be as wealthy as men. Shot of Joan Bowlind looking at a sheet of paper. Close up of the sheet of paper which has information about International Women’s Rights Year 1975 on it. She takes a seat in the living room. Another close up of the news-sheet with the heading ‘equality development peace.’ Interviewer Judy Finnigan asks if there is any significance in choosing the year 1975. Joan Bowlind replies that the status of women is tied up with the welfare of their families and so they are going to focus on healthcare. By the end of 1975 she hopes they will have achieved improvement in living conditions for women in underdeveloped countries. In England she hopes there will be more apprenticeships for women and a more adequate representation of women in the House of Commons. She also hopes that both men and women will accept that jobs are a question for the individual and that it’s whether you are good at it and want to do it that really matters, not your gender. She hopes that assigning a year to this project will work to get action in the local community and for women in other countries.
