[Mr Thistlethwaite, appointed Vice Chancellor of the new University of East Anglia]

1961 , Norwich (Norfolk)

An Anglia Television interview with Mr Thistlethwaite, the Vice Chancellor of the new University of East Anglia.

Anglia Television correspondent, John McGregor interviews Cambridge University lecturer Frank Thistlethwaite regarding his new appointment as the inaugural Vice-Chancellor of the University of East Anglia in Norwich. Thistlethwaite speaks about his career and his hopes for the new university, which he believes will forge strong links with Cambridge and other institutions around the country. Although details of the proposed curriculum are still being planned, he expresses a belief that the university, largely residential, will develop into a happy and thoroughgoing teaching establishment. Confident of attracting talented tutors, he reveals that there is no target for student numbers, suggesting a figure in the 1000s, before talking about architectural possibilities and the forthcoming construction of England's newest university.
