Gary Sobers at the All Star cricket match interrupted by rain.

The cricketers walk onto the cricket field through the gate in the white picket fence in front of the pavilion, as boys approach hunting autographs. The players move away towards the pitch where a photographer is waiting. Outside the pavilion, players including Gary Sobers sign autographs. Amongst the spectators, television presenter Judith Chalmers sits on a Welsh woven blanket. More scenes of spectators around the score board. It begins to rain and people shelter under the mature trees around the ground and beneath umbrellas and an upturned chair. The players and umpire run towards the pavilion.

Background Information

Exning Cricket Club moved to Exning Park in 1904 and this became its long-term home. From 1957 until 1973, annual All Star cricket matches were held which attracted large crowds from far and wide. Test and County cricket celebrities mixed with the horse racing crowd of the Newmarket area, including trainers and jockeys. The All Star matches were initiated by arranged by Mr and Mrs Stanhope-Joel of Snailwell Stud.
