Ken Hayes reports in front of an airstrip as two Phantoms take off from RAF Coningsby in an attempt to set a new record for the trip to Singapore. Footage of the morning's briefing show the pilots stood listening to a talk from a senior officer regarding fuel, weather and visibility. The pilots exit the building. Wing Commander Ray Bannard, CO of Fifty Four Squadron is interviewed as to why they are undertaking the record attempt. The squadron were deploying 10 aircraft so they decided to aim for the record at the same time. He discusses the great preparations required and the flight plan time. John Blake of the Royal Aero Club puts a seal inside the cockpit of one of the Phantoms, only to be broken when the flight ends in Singapore. The camera follows the planes as they take off. The pilots ascend ladders into the cockpit. Close up of pilot doing final checks.
