Windmills
1961 , Pakenham (Suffolk)
Cat no. 135713
Unedited Anglia Television production footage of Pakenham Mill including an interview with mill owner, John Bryant.
Three men work as a team to unload sacks from the first floor of Pakenham Mill to a parked truck below, outside. Intermittently throughout the footage, a clapperboard is held in shot by a member of the production team. The interior workings of the mill is shown; the machinery in action - wheels turning, and close ups of a sign asking for donations for St Mary’s Church. Against the backdrop of Pakenham Mill with its sails turning, Anglia Television reporter John McGregor interviews mill owner Mr Bryant. There are several repeat takes of the interview, as Mr Bryant attempts to detail his family’s long history of mill ownership, and explains why the National Trust and County Council have recently given funding for the mill to be restored. Mr Bryant explains the mill is a working mill used to grind corn for local farmers, and as a condition set by the Council, is also open for members of the public to visit. Several takes are shown of John McGregor delivering to camera the interview questions previously put to Mr Bryant, prompted off-camera by a production crew member.
