Anglia Television report from Aldeburgh in the run-up to the annual arts festival.
Reporting from Aldeburgh beach, John McGregor introduces the town and its annual festival. A montage sequence explores the town centre, its shops and boutiques, along with the beach, houseboats and the lifeboat crew members. McGregor’s commentary continues, giving an insight into the preparations being made in the build up to the festival. At the Jubilee Hall, classical musicians and performers rehearse, and a peek into the stage and props stores show the variety of costumes and paraphernalia needed for the festival. Workmen renovate a derelict building that is being redesigned as an art gallery. Shots of Aldeburgh Church - the festival’s most iconic venue - and tombstones in the graveyard, intercut by dramatic scenes of waves breaking against the seashore. In contrast, returning to the Jubilee Hall, a boy rehearses an operatic rendition of the ‘Turn of the Screw’, as John McGregor watches from the stalls. At the beach, McGregor ends the report.
