Anglia TV news footage; Chris Young visits a frozen food shop following the news that housewives are panic buying vegetables. Interviews with Bejam Frozen Food and Birds Eye representatives.
Interior of Bejam Frozen Food Centre. Two women are looking in the freezers and others can be seen pushing trolleys in the background. Woman takes out frozen food and puts it in her trolley. A couple are taking food out of freezers and filling up their trolley. Pans across the interior of the shop and the row of freezers. Close up of a sign above one of the freezers saying ‘Peas.’ Woman opens it and takes 2 bags of peas and then some Brussel sprouts. Reporter Chris Young interviews a shopper who says she is very concerned about a shortage of vegetables owing to the drought and so she is stocking up more than usual. More shoppers say that they are buying more than usual due to the rain shortage. A man says that it isn’t responsible to go panic buying but you must buy what you need. Another man says that he’s worried there will be a shortage of vegetables. A woman says that everyone is worried. Close up of people’s trolleys filled with frozen vegetables. Interview with John Brown, manager of Bejam Frozen Food Centre, who says that over the last few weeks vegetable sales have been phenomenal. He talks about the amount that people are buying and that it will mean prices will go up as their stocks go out. Close up of frozen vegetables and people looking in the freezers. Close up of filled trolleys. Interview with Ross Grosvenor, tech-ops at Birds Eye, who says that because of the drought he thinks that the frozen food industry prices may increase. He explains that prices will only increase slightly, but not as much as fresh vegetable prices. He thinks that people are getting too over excited about it and panic buying, but Birds Eye aren’t complaining as they are there to sell frozen vegetables. if the drought goes on then their stocks will not be enough and so they will have to import. Then the prices of frozen vegetables will be considerably higher.
