Ploughing Match
1962 , Chatteris (Cambridgeshire)
Cat no. 113560
Anglia Television report on the annual Ploughing Match at Chatteris.
Although the horse-drawn plough long ago gave way to the motorised tractor, an annual competition at Chatteris in Cambridgeshire keeps the tradition alive, with animals brought from far and wide to compete in the Ploughing Match. Competing teams are shown in action, with close-ups revealing the intricate decorations on each horse. The two-horse single-furrow event is won by Mr Earl 'Curly' Buddell - and his two horses 'Prince' and 'Punch' - who also won two tractor competitions, whilst a presentation ceremony the end of the day sees Arthur William Maycock win the prize for the best turned-out team of horses.
