Pea Thrashing at Fakenham
1962 , Fakenham (Norfolk)
Cat no. 113166
Anglia Television segment showing steam-powered pea thrashing.
Dick Joice narrates the steam-driven thrashing of a pea harvest on a farm at Fakenham in Norfolk. After cutting and drying on tripods, the peas are delivered from the fields to a thrashing machine, where Leonard Clark and his colleague pitch the vines onto a conveyor. At the top, George Lamb feeds a steady stream of vines into the thrashing drum. Pea and straw are separated from the chaff by the thrasher, which is powered by Harry Bushell's seven-horsepower steam engine. At one end of the thrasher, straw is pushed to a baler for cattle feed, whilst the peas are cleaned, graded and bagged ready for transportation.
