Anglia TV news item; vox pops on the city centre streets of Norwich asking, Has the mini skirt gone out of fashion? Also, interview with C&A Store Manager.

Girls wearing short skirts walk through Norwich City Centre. Close ups of girls coming down the stairs wearing miniskirts and walking down Davey Street. Shots of women trying on longer skirts in stores. Reporter Judy Finnigan interviews Mr Brown, C&A store manager, and asks him why his store considers the miniskirt to be dead. He replies that it’s because they are just not selling anymore. He feels that maybe it is because the ladies dress for men and men don’t like them anymore, although he’d like to think this isn’t the reason. He says that knee length skirts are selling better. Judy Finnigan asks which body part will be revealed in the next fashion trend. Mr Brown replies that he thinks maybe the back, as halter neck tops are popular in his store. Interview with a woman shopping in the store who says that she prefers knee length skirts as she doesn’t like showing her knickers anymore. Interview with a man in the street who says he likes looking at girls legs. An older couple are interviewed, with the man saying he likes them and the woman saying she thinks they are terrible. A man says that he hopes the bikini will replace the miniskirt. Another man says that he is very sorry to hear that the miniskirt is coming out of fashion whilst another feels that longer skirts will give women an air of mystery. Close up of a woman’s legs before zooming out to show her miniskirt. Judy Finnegan sits by a fountain and says that as far as she’s concerned, the miniskirt has been dead for a long time and personally she is not sad to see it die. Like everyone else in the sixties, she used to wear miniskirts. But when she thinks of all the lewd comments, rude stares and freezing legs in winter that women had to endure, all she can say is that they must have been mad to wear them.
