New Fashion: Hot Pants

1971 , Norwich (Norfolk)

Anglia Television report on the new trend of 'hot pants' for ladies.

Short, tight 'hot pants' are the latest fashion trend for ladies, as demonstrated by Anglia Television correspondent Jane Probyn. Two brief interviews with members of the public suggest a strong acceptance amongst men, before Probyn introduces this latest fashion item and interviews Sandra Reynolds, supervisor in the 'Young' department of the Norwich branch of Top Shop. Reynolds talks about the already large sales of 'hot pants' and their coming popularity, as well as the prospects of the 'larger lady' and the healthy state fashion in Norwich. After the interview, Probyn canvasses the opinion of more shoppers, who share a generally positive attitude to this revealing new trend. Many women express admiration, but suggest they are unlikely to wear them because they are either 'not slim enough' or 'too old', whilst one young man has mixed views about their practicality.
