This news report shows police at a house in Stevenage, where Mrs Susan Lowson had been strangled to death before the house was set on fire. Her four year old daughter escaped the fire. The rear exterior of a house is shown, with the top left windows wide open and visibly blackened. A male police officer wearing a white cap can be seen outside the rear of the property, as the camera focuses on the open window. A close up shot of the open upstairs window shows that the glass is clearly blackened and fire damaged. At the front of the house, three uniformed officers (two male, one female) stand guard at the front door. Two men in plain clothes (possibly detectives) are stood in the front garden, with the man closest to the house speaking with the officers and gesturing. The two men in plain clothes then walk away from the house leaving the uniformed offers on guard.

Background Information

Mrs Susan Lowson was murdered in March 1980 when John Dickinson strangled her to death before setting fire to her home. Dickinson then attacked Mrs Lowson's four-year old daughter Amanda, who was rescued when a passing milkman heard her cries and broke down the door. Dickinson was given two life sentences for murder and arson in September 1980. Mrs Lowson's daughter Amanda Wright wrote a book called "Without A Mother's Love" describing her experiences, which was released in 2016.
