Kettering Town club and supporters prepare for a replay match against Tilbury.

Film to accompany an Anglia Television news story that Kettering Town Football Club have been ordered by the Football Association to replay their first round FA Cup tie at Tilbury. Kettering had won but Tilbury protested that player Len Glover was not properly registered for the competition. The film shows a man walking to his car and putting his briefcase inside the boot. Anglia TV identify him as Maurice Marsden, Kettering Town Secretary. This is followed by still photographs of footballer Len Glover, and a pan over the empty football ground, starting with the floodlight tower. Finally, two members of the supporters club committee are interviewed. One says that it’s a disappointment, but the team will abide by the decision, go to Tilbury and win again. He says mistakes can happen, if it was a mistake, and expresses support for the club administration. He is optimistic that Kettering will go into the hat with Nuneaton, and play in the third round.

Background Information

In 1977–78 in the FA Cup first round, a second replay was ordered between Tilbury FC and Kettering Town after the first match won by Kettering 1-0 was declared null and void because Kettering had used an ineligible player. The problem arose because Kettering had failed to gain the necessary International Clearance for Len Glover after his spell in the North American Soccer League. The teams drew in the replay 2-2 and then Tilbury won at Kettering 3-2 after being two goals down within the first 10 minutes. Tilbury went on to beat Nuneaton Borough 2–1 in the second round, before being drawn away to Stoke City in the third round, a match they lost 4–0.
