Anglia TV sports news; interview with David Pleat, Manager of Luton Town Football Club.
Luton football team kick the ball around on the pitch during practice. Commentator Gerry Harrison says that it is rare for any manager to lead his players to the First Division on his first job. David Pleat, manager of Luton Town Football Club, shouts instructions to the players followed by a close up of him pointing at certain members of the team. Harrison talks about Pleat coming to the club as a coach 10 years after being a player there. He was only 33 when he took over the unsettled club which was in debt, had no coaching staff, players coming and going and achieving erratic results. Harrison interviews Pleat who says he felt he could manage Luton if given the opportunity. He feels that any young manager does well to survive the first year as it’s extremely difficult. Harrison states that Luton’s transformation has only taken two years and that the players' only weakness was that they lacked experience and belief in themselves. They discuss the players he’s bought this year. Players are in the dressing room. Harrison describes how Pleat has made profit on transfers and strengthened the squad. Back to Pleat who says that he’s learning as he goes along and is trying to delegate more. Player’s legs are being massaged by a physiotherapist. Pleat talks about the high level of comradery and spirit in the team. Players go through a tunnel and onto the pitch while the crowd cheers. Pleat is on the side lines watching the players. He talks about his future as a coach at Luton.
