Ipswich Town FC Nearing The Day At Wembley

1978 , Suffolk & Hertfordshire (County)

Anglia Television report and interviews with Ipswich Town supporters and players' wives building up to the F.A. Cup Final at Wembley.

Ipswich Town F.C. players pose for photos in the grounds of the Georgian Hotel just days before the F.A. Cup Final match against Arsenal at Wembley Stadium . Steve Rider reports from on board a coach on its way to Wembley Stadium for the Cup Final match, with Ipswich Town supporters in high spirits, singing, chatting, and confident in their team’s success, quashing any rumours of doubt by rivals Norwich City. A female supporter describes an accident that happened at a previous match which resulted in a visit to hospital, but argues incidents like this will not stop her enjoying supporting her team. Back on the coach, fans chant an alternative version of the song “Que Sera Sera”. Anglia Television reporter Pam Rhodes interviews the wives of some of the players, asking about their interest in the sport and support for their husbands; how they cope watching their husbands on the pitch, particularly when there are injuries; whether there is any anxiety thinking about their husband’s retirement from professional football; how do they feel about their husband’s status now equal to popstars; and finally, will they be wearing something special to the Cup Final match?
