Dick Joice interviews Jack Sears - now a local farmer, although better known as a world-famous former motor racing driver.

The discussion begins with light-hearted banter about a plastic teaspoon, before continuing with Jack Sears explaining his early childhood enthusiasm for motor sport and his father’s input enabling him to realise his ambitions – the same encouragement he claims he would give to his own son, should he form an interest. Dick and Jack discuss the technical advancements in motor racing and the skill of the driver; Jack talks about his personal experience of racing and jokes about the distraction of the glamorous “dollies” at the trackside. He describes the support received by his wife, despite her concerns for his safety; then informed by his experience of worldwide travel, describes the cultural differences, standards of driving, and enthusiasm for the sport in Europe and America. Dick Joice asks for Jack’s opinion on the topic of ‘amateur versus professional sport’, and also asks if he has concerns about the incredibly high transfer fees provided for footballers.
