Reaction to a barricade in protest about lack of employment and youth club facilities.

Anglia Television news reporter Greg Barnes stands outside a corner shop in Peterborough with the street in the background. He talks about the demonstrators barricading and sealing off Taverners Road for 2 hours the night before. The police were called to divert traffic and negotiate with the protesters. No arrests were made and no damage was done, but it shows the depth of feeling within the black community in the area. Shot of the street sign for Taverners Road. Greg Barnes states that the area has a high concentration of immigrant families. Shot of immigrants walking down the street and into their homes. Barnes talks about the high unemployment rate for young black people in the area. Interview with Cammy Simmon, youth and community worker, who talks about why people decided to protest. They had been trying to get employment rates higher for them for 2 years. When asked if he condones their behaviour, he replies that he could never condone anything that is not within the law. He sympathises with the people who used these methods, even though he would have gone about it in a different way. He hopes that they won’t feel the necessity to have to use those methods again. Anglia's description of the news story suggests that the protest was a reaction against the City Council failing to provide a building for a youth club for the area.
