Data on AIDS and HIV to inform planning of health support services.

Dr Peter Hutchby explains why the East Anglian Health Authority are keen to be a pilot region for data gathering on incidence of HIV and AIDS, working with the Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre. He says this will be statistical data with names and any identification removed. The figures will be vital to show the size of the problem, the regional spread of cases and the need for resources. He says the cost of a case is £6,000 - £7,000 for hospital care alone. The health authority must be able and prepared to respond to this need as well as the competing demands of elderly care, mental illness, mental disabilities and waiting lists for surgery. The reporter was Greg Barnes for this video made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.
