Proposal for targeted health education post.
Anglia TV reporter Surrey Beddows interviews Dr Gilbert Griffin, Director of Public Health for Southend-on-Sea, Essex about the proposal to appoint someone full time to help educate those at risk in AIDS prevention. Dr Griffin says the disease can only be controlled by modifying the lifestyle of those at high risk until there is a treatment or vaccine. A specialist officer would become familiar with the subject of AIDS and will contact people in high-risk groups as part of a continuing project to try and improve their health prospects. Asked if the government’s AIDS publicity campaigns are not enough, Dr Griffin says that personal conversation has a different kind of impact. The person appointed will probably have a medical or nursing background and their personality will be an important factor. He is asked about the cost of the project. This video was made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.
