Interview about specialist advice service for people concerned about the AIDS virus.

Interview with Tonie Gibson, Chairman of Peterborough Health Authority. He says the AIDS hotline will provide a counselling and advice centre for people who have some anxiety about AIDS. It will relieve pressure on clinical consultants who have to respond to all AIDS queries. Anglia TV reporter Greg Barnes refers to the national publicity campaign about AIDS. What message do Peterborough Health Authority want to put across? Tonie Gibson says the NHS is a caring service and people need to be able to see something is being done. They aim to counter misinformation about AIDS and be seen to be acting, planning and supporting those at risk. The message is that the NHS is here to help. Asked how serious is the threat of AIDS, Tonie Gibson says this is evident in what is happening in the USA and the progression of the disease. It’s vital to offer proper advice, and if that had been available sooner, some innocent victims could have been protected – he mentions those affected through donated blood. This video was made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.
