Better accommodation for specialist services at District Hospital.

Exterior view of the new Sutton Wing at Peterborough District Hospital which extends the space available for outpatients and pathology departments. The opening ceremony is performed by Tony Gibson, Chairman of the Peterborough Health Authority. Four speciality departments have new premises including space for laboratories and computer equipment. Brief scenes of a child having an eye test in Ophthalmology; another child is treated in Orthodontics; the Phlebotomy suite for blood testing services; and the Maxillofacial laboratory represented by an X-ray of head and face. Consultant Surgeon William Lamb explains that staff have been working under pressure for the past 13 years for lack of space. The new premises offer an improvement for patients and staff will have better facilities to maintain standards and offer a wider range of treatments. The ability to treat more patients would depend on extra staffing. The reporter was Greg Barnes for this video made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.
