Norwich City supporters greet the Duchess ahead of opening of City Stand.
Hours before the football match, keen supporters wave flags as the Duchess of Kent arrives to spend almost five hours at Norwich City Football Club ground at Carrow Road, Norwich. There is only a brief scene of the Duchess touring inside the building. Instead this report focuses on football fans waiting in the family enclosure. They are entertained by the band of the Second Battalion the Royal Anglian Regiment, conducted by a long serving Norwich supporter, Doris Thorpe. They play “The Birdie Song”. Beside the pitch, the Duchess chats with the fans, asking who they think is the best player for Norwich? For the official opening of the City Stand, the Duchess releases 2,000 yellow and green balloons which float up into the sky. She then sits in the box to watch a match between Norwich City and Manchester City which ended in a draw. A few highlights from the match are shown. The reporter was Gerry Harrison for this video made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.
