Proposal for area beside River Wensum between the railway station and football ground.
Scenes filmed from a high viewpoint on a grey winter’s day, panning across the area proposed for development along the River Wensum. The area is covered in industrial premises of Boulton and Paul and other companies between the railway lines and the river reaching as far as the Norwich City Football Club ground at Carrow Road. The 30-acre site is owned by British Rail and an engineering company which are both involved in the project. The plan offers shops, offices, a swimming pool, multi-screen cinema, ice rink and concert hall, and 1,300 jobs will be created. Norwich City Council say the cost will be met by private investment and this plan will regenerate this south-east area of the city. Work could start in two years and be completed by the mid-1990s. The reporter was Chris Young for this short video made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.
