One of the dancers kissed Mrs Thatcher during her trip to the USSR.

Members of the Georgian State Dance Company perform a fighting dance with swords and shields as they prepare for their theatre appearance in Norwich, Norfolk. One of the dancers became famous for kissing UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher when she visited the USSR. Anglia TV reporter Rebecca Atherstone interviews him through interpreter Lara Bushell. A man and woman dance together, the woman appearing to float in her full-length gown. Also interviewed is the youngest dancer, Iliko Sukhishvili the 14-year-old grandson of the founder of the dance company. He is studying English and his first visit to the west gives him the opportunity to practice the language. He says he dances for four hours each day. This short video was made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.

The Georgian National Ballet is the first professional state dance company in Georgia. It was founded in 1945 by husband and wife Iliko Sukhishvili and Nino Ramishvili and was initially named the Georgian State Dance Company. Iliko Sukhishvili Jr. is a chief choreographer and Nino Sukhishvili (the granddaughter of Iliko and Nino) is a deputy-manager and costume designer.
