Prince Philip unveils a commemorative plaque and signs the guest book at the opening of new headquarters for Scicon in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. On a brief tour he is shown a computer system which monitors traffic movement at naval bases which is useful for coastal defence and rescue operations. As an environmentalist he shows a particular interest in an oil pollution prediction programme which can be used to control oil slicks. It is displayed under the banner heading ‘SCOOP – combating oil pollution”. Prince Philip is presented with a hand-held computer which calculates the high and low tides at various ports. Might he use it on the Royal Yacht? A television video crew can be seen in the crowd. The reporter was Owen Spencer-Thomas for this video made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.
