Pop musician from Suffolk lends his support to Suffolk Police Drugs Hotline.

Musician Nik Kershaw joins the Chief Constable of Suffolk and the Head of the Suffolk Drugs Squad for a press event about the Drugs Hotline. He has been open about taking drugs for three years when a pupil at an Ipswich grammar school and in the early years of his music career. Posters show his image used in connection with the message “drugs can kill”. Interviewed, Nik Kershaw says he took cannabis, amphetamines and cocaine. He says at the time he was afraid of being left out, and he fears there can be the same peer pressure for people nowadays. He does not think he was hooked on drugs but knows people who were seriously affected. Asked if the pop world is to blame for encouraging young people in drug taking, he says it has been, but there is a more responsible attitude now.
