Interview about grain mountains and famine relief with Labour Shadow Minister for Overseas Development.

Dramatic views across a vast warehouse full of grain. Anglia TV reporter Stephen Cole says that some of this grain will eventually go abroad, either as economic export or as charity food aid. The Shadow Minister for Overseas Development, Labour’s Stuart Holland is interviewed at the warehouse. He says the conservative government is not doing enough in response to the famine in Ethiopia. The two northern provinces, Tigray and Eritrea, could get through the content of this warehouse every month. They are not receiving aid because the Ethiopian government will not agree to safe passage of aid in Ethiopia, which Mr Holland says is a political issue the UK government could address. He says that water aid is also needed in the form of dams, wells and drilling equipment for drought areas. The reporter asks Mr Holland what he would do if he were in office in place of Timothy Raison, Minister for Overseas Development. He replies that fuel is needed as well as food in Sudan and Ethiopia, and that an exporting nation like the UK should be able to cut through red tape. He says the government is not showing imagination to match the response to the famine by the public and East Anglian farmers and the Live Aid concert taking place that weekend. This short video was made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.
