Deciding the future use of St Andrew the Great church.

The Church of England authorities are looking into proposed alternative uses for the building including a day centre, a museum and a restaurant. Anglia TV reporter John Kiddey explains that the Greek Orthodox congregation have met for weekly worship in the church over the past sixteen years and do not want to move. Contacted by the reporter, the Greek Orthodox Archdeacon in London has said that they would be prepared to sign a lease and pay rent and any restoration required. He considers the Church of England attitude to be unchristian and has said that the congregation would be prepared to hold services outside on the pavement. Rt. Rev. David Walser, Archdeacon of Ely, is interviewed and explains the procedures in law required of the Church of England. He says that the Redundant Churches Uses Committee need to look at all the alternatives including the offer from the Greek Orthodox congregation.
