Peterborough Racial Equality Council asks for police recognition of the racist aspect of attacks on Asian grocery stores.

A report on the effect of racist attacks on Asian shops in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. Exterior scenes of the K. & Z. Dungarwalla grocery shop and a Spar store called The Shopping Basket. The windows have been repaired but stock and morale of the shopkeepers is damaged. In one night, eleven shop windows were broken, and one shop has had its window smashed five times. Asian community leaders ask that this is specifically recognised as racial harassment. Mahebub Ladha of Peterborough Racial Equality Council describes the technique of the attacks which is designed to cause damage. He asks that the police treat these incidents as racist attacks because this will help the community to feel more secure.
