Varied reactions to a large mural of a young black man on a Jamaican beach being painted by artist Peter Lee.

Anglia Television reporter Peter Lugg comments on Milton Keynes’ reputation for the architectural avant garde. A view across an open car parking area shows a new mural commissioned by house occupants for their end wall. The mural is a Jamaican beach scene of a young black man wearing green trousers and a red cap over dreadlocks, one hand on hip and holding up a cigarette as he stands on an orange beach next to a palm tree. Owner Nora Williamson stands by the mural holding a child. She says they have other murals by the same artist inside their house and thought it would brighten up the place. A woman neighbour thinks the mural is terrible and says it frightens the children and there has been paint on shoes. A man neighbour says the Milton Keynes Development Corporation have told them they can put up with the mural or move, and there is no question of a rent or rate rebate. Artist Peter Lee is seen working on the painting. The Development Corporation have looked at the mural and consider it a professional work so the painting can continue. This short video was made to be shown in a news story on Anglia Television early evening news / magazine programme About Anglia.
