News report about immigration issues affecting an adopted child with disabilities requiring medical treatment.

A man and woman walk along a Bedford street with a young boy in his adopted father’s arms. The 3-year-old boy cannot walk because of a condition affecting both his feet which will require an operation. The boy is from Bangladesh and was adopted by the couple in 1984. In March 1986 he arrived in the UK with his adopted mother without entry clearance but was given a six month permit to stay which expired yesterday. Exterior views of terraced houses where the family live and Bedford Hospital South Wing where the boy is receiving treatment. Solicitor for the family David Noble says that the boy is unlikely to receive the necessary medical treatment in Bangladesh. Now he has been made a ward of court, there is a period during which the boy cannot be deported. The family hope to resolve the uncertainty about the boy’s legal status by proceeding towards adoption through the UK system. The reporter states that the Home Office view is that it needs to be established in Bangladesh whether this was a genuine case or an adoption of convenience.
