Cambridge University students fundraise for Poppy Day.
The opening shots show a student dressed as Hitler on horse back, riding through the streets of Cambridge. There is a still of 'Hitler' and a still of a swastika. A poster reads, 'Lets Go To The Midsummer Common Fete'. Shots of the fete show a mock auction interspersed with shots of the crowd. People attempt to walk a pole. A bucket is passed around the crowd to collect money. On Market Hill there are further shots of the Poppy Day celebrations. These include shots of a minstrel band. A tabard that a man is wearing reads, 'Come To The Emma Fair'. Students in fancy dress shine shoes and there are lengthy sequences showing people in fancy dress collecting money. Some of the crowd is in army uniform. A group dressed as Groucho Marx play a Hurdy Gurdy. In the streets there is a hand cart as well as cars and bicycles. A man performs tricks with a lassoo and there are further shots of 'Hitler,' this time with a poster reading Poppy Heil. A pipe band passes as part of the carnival Parade. The next sequence shows a series of events, including a drinking contest, featuring men and women and mud wrestling. Back on the streets a man is dressed as Charlie Chaplin and others are dressed as nurses. A placard reads, 'Up Bevan 'and another, Y'ou can't take it with you'.The film ends with a list of figures showing sums collected since 1936.
