Scenes from King & Harper Ltd, garage and filling station on Milton Road, Cambridge and from a carpenter's workshop, another business owned by the family. On a busy street cars enter and leave the garage of King & Harper Ltd. Traffic passes on the road outside. A mechanic changes the wheel of a lorry. Large tractor tyres are fitted onto a tractor. In the workshop the tractor is repaired by a team of mechanics. They are filmed welding and reconstructing the gear box. In the wind and rain outside, Charlie Guyton and Mr. Swann, the petrol pump attendants, are filmed attending to customers. They fill cars with petrol (there is a shot of the pump gauge), take money and write receipts. Shots of the surrounding streets including traffic negotiating the Milton Road traffic island. A young man pushes a hand cart loaded with timber. In the carpenter's workshop staff are being addressed by a man in corporal's uniform. Two of the workers here are Sidney Steward, in a black beret, and Arthur (Billie) Wells. There is applause when the man has finished. In the office a woman clerk stamps invoices. In the heavy vehicle department Sidney Steward and a younger mechanic work on an American Army truck. There are several women in the workforce. Workers fit the radiator grill onto the truck. The staff are addressed again. At the petrol pumps Charlie Guyton fills a bus with petrol and gives change. Some coupons may exchange hands as well as money. American Army trucks refuel.
