Flying - Out Of The Blue

c. 1939 , Cambridge (Cambridgeshire)

Air raid precautions and the fear of gas attacks on civilians during World War II.

Scenes of a simulated air raid, designed to show precautions planned against a gas attack. This is told in part story form, beginning with shots of a woman putting her children to bed. There are shots of bombed and smoking buildings. People are watching and screaming. Casualties are taken away on stretchers. A shot shows people walking in a line, one hand on the shoulder of the person in front. Shots of a Vickers Virginia, a Handley Page Heyford, a squadron of Gloster Gauntlets, a De Havilland Dragon and an Avro Anson probably at RAF Duxford about 1936.
