1970 , Norwich (Norfolk)
Cat no. 1938
Production footage from a documentary about how to use a library catalogue.
Unedited outtakes of a documentary showing how to locate books in the library of the University of East Anglia. Walking into the catalogue room, a young man searches subject-based card catalogues, noting down the details of books he requires. This action is shown from numerous angles, including close-ups of catalogue cards. Having located the relevant science texts, the man heads to the second floor of the library, which houses the science and mathematics volumes. Searching for the correct shelf location, he locates the first book with the help of the library's alpha-numeric shelfmark classification system. Having checked the index and found the relevant information, he continues his search for the other books on his list.
