Mr Franklin's King's Lynn Films

1920s - 1930s , King's Lynn (Norfolk)

Various events in and around King's Lynn in the 1920s and 1930s.

The first item on this compilation is quite separate. It shows boats, sailing boats and cargo boats, on the River Ouse and on The Wash. There is a steam tug and on the quay men are loading coal onto a cart. A brief scene shows three men talking in front of a traction engine in a field. The next feature is a civic function, possible an Armistice Day parade. Church and civic dignitaries enter the Church. Some very small cadets form a guard of honour. There is a parade through the town. This features soldiers, the choir, civic dignitaries, a band and former soldiers and sailors. There is a church service in the town square. The major makes a speech. There are some brief scenes of golf. The following feature shows a Norfolk Show. Most of the shots are of farm machinery available, some of it from Australia. General show scenes in the ring show heavy horses and cattle being paraded. There are also mares with their foal. There is another parade. This maybe further shots of the earlier parade or one from a later date. There are brief shots of a party at a stately home. Another parade features. This time happy school children are filmed waving flags. This maybe an Empire Day Parade. Church and other dignitaries are present. Back at the stately home the Bede Ladies from Castle Rising are present. They are wearing their distinctive tall black hats. The next feature is of a swimming gala. There are shots of men and boys rowing tubs. Men swim on lilos and then attempt to push each other off rafts. There is another parade but although sailors are present it is too happy to be an Armistice Day Parade. The final scenes are of different types of dancing at a Fete in the garden of a large house.
