BBC East documentary profiling the village of Yoxford, Suffolk.
The film opens with shots of the A12 running through the village of Yoxford. Jean Goodman notes that this village is often known as the 'garden of Suffolk.' Shots of Rookery Park and of Grove Park. The latter was used as a Russian barracks in the BBC drama serial Fall Of Eagles. Cockfield Hall features. This was where Lady Katherine Grey, younger sister of Lady Jane Grey, died. The present mistress of Cockfield Hall, Lady Caroline Blois tells of her feelings about Lady Katherine and of how the house is a happy house. Shots of St. Peter's Church, Yoxford where Lady Katherine was buried before her body was moved to Salisbury Cathedral. Shots of Wolsey House Farm, believed to have been owned by Cardinal Wolsey. The area attracts musicians. The composer Derek Melville lives in an 18th century dower house and is filmed leaving his house and walking through the garden. Joan Croft, a former singer, is filmed at the window of her cottage. Jean Goodman talks to Mrs. English, the village postmistress in the main street. Shots of the post office and of the village. Jean Goodman explains how it has changed in character, antique and craft shops replacing local shops. Vera Bell, an artist, is filmed painting in the garden of her home. She talks about the village. She doesn't believe that the village has changed for the worse. The final shots are of the village and of the River Yox.
